Top professional and amateur drivers in the highly-competitive world of rock crawling will descend on the rugged Three Peaks Recreation Area, just outside Cedar City, Utah on May 6th & 7th.
The World Extreme Rock Crawling Championship Series brings many of the best off-roaders in the world together. They vie for points in both Western and Eastern series, before the Grand Nationals competition in September. For 2023, Three Peaks hosts Western Series Round 2.
This unique opportunity allows spectators to get right up to the action—sometimes within a couple of car lengths—just don’t cross the course barriers. Courses themselves follow the most rugged and rocky terrain imaginable, with elevation changes, crack lines, cone “gates,” and other challenging obstacles to conquer.
Each team consists of “car,” driver, and spotter. Their objective is to get the best (lowest) score possible by completing each fiendish course within the 10 minutes allotted, by driving bonus lines, and by avoiding penalties for hitting cones or having to back up and reattempt a segment.
Professional classes range across Unlimited, ProMod, and Mod Stock. Amateurs compete in Sportsman A (similar to Unlimited), C (pickups and jeep-type rigs), and UTV (side-by-side) classes. Course difficulty varies across classes, but the goal is always to dominate the natural terrain. Good reflexes, keeping one’s emotions in check, and problem-solving skills are key.
Between rounds, spectators are welcome to check out the vehicles, meet the drivers, ask questions and get autographs. Of course all of this happens outside. So layer up and come prepared with chairs, water, hats, sunscreen, etc. Vendors will be onsite.
Tickets are reasonably priced at $15/day for adults and $5/day for youth. For directions, ticket purchases, or additional information, check out https://www.werocklive.com/western-series-round-2-may-6th-and-7th-three-peaks-in-cedar-city-ut/.
