<\/script><div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br><br>I finally scored my dream car\u2014a mid-engine Euro sports coupe\u2014and it was time to part ways with my great daily. My 2017 Subaru WRX STi Limited was the best-optioned version except for the rare S209 and Type RA. With just over 70k miles, a few rock chips, and a ding or two, it was still in great shape. Clean title in hand, unmodified, and well-maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I figured a private sale was the way to go. Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds put private-party value around $19,600, with trade-in closer to $17,900. So I listed it at $19,900 and waited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then came a message from Austin Pilling at Southtowne Mitsubishi in Sandy, Utah. I told him I wasn\u2019t looking to trade\u2014just sell. Surprisingly, he said they\u2019d likely offer $19,000 to $21,000 <em>if<\/em> the Carfax was clean. Skeptical, I braced for the classic bait-and-switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Austin followed up the next day, he had a potential buyer and said they were still good for something near asking price. I pushed back\u2014nobody wants to drive hours to get lowballed when the dealership inspects the car. He assured me that they wouldn\u2019t jerk me around. Plus, their website boldly claimed \u201c$2K More for Your Trade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"654\" src=\"https:\/\/utahmotornews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250516_070415-1024x654.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utahmotornews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250516_070415-980x626.jpg 980w, https:\/\/utahmotornews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250516_070415-480x307.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After reviewing the listing, photos, and Carfax, Austin came back with a $20,500 offer. I was still skeptical, but curious enough to make the trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I arrived, the car checked out mostly as advertised. Their techs flagged about $1,000 in service needs (coolant, brake fluid, oil change, intake cleaning,..), so they dropped the offer by $500. After a little back-and-forth\u2014some of that work wasn\u2019t urgent\u2014we landed at $20,200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s slightly <em>over<\/em> my asking price and more than $2,000 above trade-in estimates. Deal done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I held on to the car until their check was ready, then the transfer was smooth and professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So while your mileage may vary\u2014my STi was probably higher-demand than most cars\u2014I had a great experience working with Austin Pilling and selling to Southtowne Mitsubishi. I\u2019m not sure their offer is still in effect, but they really did pay me $2000 above trade-in value for my car, and made the process reasonably painless.
